Curricular choirs meet as a regular class period every day for 50 minutes in Room 17. All groups sing a variety of musical styles throughout the year including contemporary music selected by the students!
Treble Choir (C135)
All freshman and introductory sopranos/altos, non-auditioned
Meets during Period 7
Treble Choir focuses on the development of good singing habits including proper posture, breath support and control, and healthy choral tone. Students will learn the foundations of music reading and music theory.
Viking Chorale (C236)
All freshman and introductory tenors/basses, intermediate sopranos/altos in grades 10-12
Meets during Period 4
Viking Chorale focuses on the development of good singing habits including proper body posture, breath support and control, and healthy choral tone. Students will learn the foundations of music reading and music theory.
Bella Voce (C336)
Sopranos/Altos: Grades 10-12
Audition required
Meets during Period 6
Bella Voce (formerly AWC) includes sopranos/altos who have developed consistent pitch-matching skills, individual vocal technique, and choral part singing at an advanced level. Singers will increase their vocal confidence and overall musical aptitude. They participate in the Illinois Treble Choir Festival in early February as a field trip during the school day. Private voice study is encouraged.
Chamber Singers (C436)
Sopranos/Altos/Tenors/Basses: Grades 10-12
Audition required
Meets during Period 2
Chamber Singers is the most advanced mixed choral ensemble. Music reading ability and the demonstration of advanced vocal proficiency are required. The class focuses on advanced choral techniques and independent singing skills. Students in Chamber Singers audition for the ILMEA District VII Regional Choir (north/northwest suburbs) in early October. They participate in the Lakeside Choral Festival in November as a field trip during the school day. Private voice study is strongly encouraged.
